Tournament Notes: All main tournament results and prize winnings are now online.
-- Five IM norms were made, probably the most for any American tournament in many years: Eli Vovsha, Stanislav Kriventsov, Norman Rogers, Donny Ariel, and Aaron Pixton.
-- This is the third year in a row that GM Joel Benjamin has been a co-winner of the World Open. He won title via a blitz playoff last year.
-- GM Ivanov started the tournament poorly, losing his 3rd and 5th round games and was seemingly out of contention. But he won his last four games, including a long game against GM Maurice Ashley in the last round,
in order to reach the 7.0 mark. Ivanov was a co-winner last year as well.
-- There were three decisive games amongst the top boards with Goldin, Ivanov, and Yudasin winning to secure their place at the top. A number of the draws were hard fought.
-- Except for Ivanov, none of the other co-winners lost a game (all winning 5 and drawing 4)! Ivanov did not draw once!
-- Tournament attendance was up -- 1302 people entered (that includes re-entries).
-- 334 games are now available; more than ever before from a World Open.
